Reconsider - Strayhorn

Paul Ferreira – vocals, guitar, harmonica Paul began playing the blues in the early 1970s. Largely self taught, he has been making music and writing songs for his own interest and enjoyment ever since. Strayhorn began as a solo project, made possible by affordable multi-track home recording, with the distant dream of finding the right people to play with. In the summer of 2010, after accepting an invitation from an old friend, Algerian band leader Seddik Zebiri, to his Sunday jam at Charlie Wright's in Hoxton, he was fortunate enough to connect with some fine jazz musicians who share his love of the blues. Oli Arlotto – tenor saxophone French born, living in London for many years, Oli is one of the most exciting and versatile horn players on the British jazz scene with a rich and energetic sound. He has toured in Europe with Vincent Arnaldi and numerous other French jazz bands. In 1998 he formed the 5 piece jazz-rock band 804d, touring nationwide and in London. Since then Oli has played with blues artists like Canadian guitarist/singer Drew Barron (ex Buddy Miles` band) and played all over the UK with many excellent jazz musicians and his own quartet. Michael Searl - drums Originally inspired by a Phil Collins concert on TV Michael took up the drums while at senior school and learnt to play by hitting everything in sight. For many years his kit consisted of Argos shopping catalogues, a rubber pad, a wooden chest, and the floor. He has a love of ALL kinds of music - having learnt to play by jamming with whatever was on the radio, or along with old tapes from family members...etc. Currently very busy on the London gig scene, Michael is feeling very Blessed...and in the words of his fellow Jazzaholic, Sir Lance Rose: "I just like it when it makes me wanna Dance" Michele Montolli - bass Born in Verona in 1986. At 8 years old he took up classical violin at the Conservatory in Verona. In his early teens he switched to electric bass and started to play in several local bands (rock, blues, reggae). At the age of 17 he studied classical double bass at the Conservatory in Verona, later taking up jazz double bass in Austria at the University for Music in Graz ( Wayne Darling's class), graduating in 2009. He has performed at the Verona Jazz Festival in 2006 and at many others around Europe and Balkan Penisula. Currently he's based in London and involved in a number of world music and jazz projects - Alejandro & the Magic Tombolinos, Don Menza Italian Quintet, Curiòrkestra. He has one album release for Azzurra Music with Baobab Ensemble – (UZUBUZU). Joe Bickerstaff – keyboards Joe started on violin aged 6 and struggled for five years to keep the damn thing in tune. And then at 11 discovered the piano which he taught himself, without the constraints of tutorship or preconception. The blues was where he started and remains in his very fibre. Branching out into jazz, jazz funk and cocktail to make a living, Joe has travelled the world through music, but is now firmly settled in North London. Glastonbury, Hyatt Singapore, Jumeriah Beach Hotel Dubai and the Langham, Dorchester, Hilton, Vortex and Grosvenor in London are semi-regular venues. Dave Peabody (born David Peabody, 20 April 1948, Southall, Middlesex, London, England) is an English singer-songwriter, blues and folk musician, record producer and photographer, active since the late 1960s, who has appeared on more than 60 albums. He is primarily known for his acoustic guitar playing, in both bottleneck and fingerpicking styles. He first recorded in 1971 as a member of a group, Polly Flosskin, who recorded an album, Sailin' on the Ocean, and then as a member of a successor group, Tight Like That, on the Village Thing label. He also performed with early versions of Savoy Brown and Fleetwood Mac. His first, self-titled, solo album was released in 1973. In all, he has released nine solo albums, the last being Side by Slide in 2005. He has also performed and recorded with a wide variety of other blues musicians, notably Charlie Musselwhite and Big Joe Duskin, as well as in a duo with Bob Hall, and has appeared at many blues festivals in the US and in Europe. In 1996, he replaced Paul King in the King Earl Boogie Band. Since I've Been Lovin' You - Bare Bones Boogie Band

The Bare Bones Boogie Band are a stripped-down, no nonsense blues band, closest in sound and attitude to the classic British blues boom of the 60s and 70s, when bands like Free, Fleetwood Mac and the Stones were inspired by BB King and Robert Johnson, and in America when Janis Joplin was re-inventing Etta James. Live, the BBBB give it their all, with no apologies for their rawness, nor for their tenderness – heavy, soulful blues! Formed in London from across the UK – from Glasgow and St. Andrews in Scotland, Birmingham and Manchester in England - the BBBB unites a wealth of experience both 'Live' and and in the studio. Together, since October 2008, the band played their first gig within three weeks and finished their first year together with an exclusive appearance at the O2 Dome in London. Blues from Blues Kitchen - Sam Hare, Mal Barclay, Lee Sankey

Footage starts with an Otis Span inspired piano solo from Joe Glossop. Then Sam Hare and Mal Barclay lay down some sweet blues. Mal paying in the style of T-Bone Walker. Lee Sankey harmonica, Jamie Lawrence bass, Rob Pokorny drums. Recorded live at the Blues Kitchen, London.
Sam Hare has come up through the British Blues scene, playing alongside the likes of not only Matt Schofield and Ian Siegal, but also Jeremy Spencer, Buddy Whittington, Scott McKeon, Lee Sankey and Raphael Ravenscroft. He was also personally invited to guest with Bonnie Bramlett (of Delaney & Bonnie) a few years ago, and has recently opened up for Jack Bruce, Vintage Trouble, Mark Flanegan and James Hunter. Hare has also worked with Saint Jude and Jet Tricks, having made writing, vocal and guitar contributions to the latter’s upcoming album, as well as being featured in their live band. He has also written or co-written songs for the last three albums by Ian Siegal – The Dust, Broadside, and The Skinny, and co-wrote the opening track ‘All you need’ with Matt Schofield for his first studio album Siftin’ thru ashes.
One of the hardest working blues guitarists in London and T-Bone Walker obsessive, Mal moved to London in 2002 after 12 years in Edinburgh. Since then, he's played with the best of the South East blues scene all over the UK and Europe - including appearances with Kurt Crandall, Jerimiah Marques & the Blue Aces, West Weston's Bluesonics, Pete G & the MagniTones, the Eric Ranzoni Trio, Sam Hare (as Hucklebuck and Soul Junction), Oo-Bop-Sh'Bam, and Gentleman Tim & the Contenders. Currently Mal may be seen on stage playing West Coast blues with The Cadillac Kings or soulful blues with Big Mamma's Door.

In this blues harmonica lesson Lee Sankey shows how you can add flourishes to the ending of your blues licks and phrases like a professional player. Lee runs through exercises in 1st, cross and 3rd position that demonstrate two important techniques. One, jumping an octave and two, avoiding the root note. http://lnk.ms/MBHlC

New Release: Andrew D. Gordon - Boogie-Woogie and the Blues - Review and the Blues

I recently received a cd of piano boogie and blues by Andrew D. Gordon called Boogie-Woogie and the Blues. This is a straight up piano cd with 9 original tracks. The cd opens with the title track and is a stark contrast to the overproduced recordings that I sometimes receive. Just a man and his piano. Raggedy Blues is an uptempo take blend of Boogie and Ragtime. It's actually a pretty interesting take on the fusion of the two. Boogie In the Sunshine is a straight ahead boogie and one that you will likely find enjoyable if you like boogie piano. I like the piano syncopation that Andrew gets going in the track. Boogie With Nicky is moves along pretty quickly and may be a nod to Gordon's appreciation for piano great Nicky Hopkins. Come On You Blues ventures on the boogie train in to a jazz genre. I like the change and it is quite sophisticated. Holly and Ben's Boogie is a cool 12 bar blues with piano improvisation. H.R. Blues is a slow grinding blues and possibly my favorite. Junk Mail Blues takes on the New Orleans feel and delivers the gumbo. Korean Barbecue Blues has that old style boogie feel and is a good conclusion to the cd.

Based in London, Mike is a session guitarist who has played for many artists such as the Ting Tings, Levelle London, Portia Emare and many more.
With a passion and focus on live performances, he has achieved many sessions, SBTV, Balcony TV, Music Hidccup, live FM and digital radio worldwide and has even played a live acoustic set for Dannii Minogue. He has also played some amazing venues such as the 100 Club, Ronnie Scott's, the Southampton Guildhall and many more.
On the side Mike writes and plays solo and band music. His latest trio, "Alice Avenue", have recently released their debut album, "Unreliable". He also has a vast experience in studio, with albums and singles being released worldwide.

Rollin and Tumblin - Imogen Heap and Jeff Beck

Imogen Jennifer Jane Heap (pronounced /ˈɪmədʒɨn ˈhiːp/) (born 9 December 1977 in the London Borough of Havering) is a Grammy Award-winning English singer, composer and songwriter from Romford, Havering. She is known for her work as part of the musical duo Frou Frou and her solo albums, which she writes, produces, and mixes. She has produced three solo albums, the latest of which is 2009's Ellipse, which was a North American chart success and earned Heap two Grammy nominations, winning Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Geoffrey Arnold "Jeff" Beck (born 24 June 1944) is an English rock guitarist. One of three noted guitarists, with Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, to have played with The Yardbirds, Beck also formed The Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. He was ranked 14th in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and the magazine has described him as "one of the most influential lead guitarists in rock". He was also ranked second greatest rock guitarist of all time in Digital Dream Door, a site that ranks movies and music. MSNBC has called him a "guitarist's guitarist".
